AN inspirational man who survived a rare brain tumour has conquered the three highest mountains in the UK.

Ben Lindon, of West Malvern Road, Malvern, who was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour in 2008, scaled Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon over a weekend to raise money for Brain Tumour Research.

Mr Lindon raised £2,772, which is just over the cost for the charity to do a full day’s research into brain tumours.

The tree surgeon was joined by three doctors – Paul Daniel, Tim Marshall and David Williams – from Shipston Medical Centre in the Cotswolds for the two-day challenge, which started on September 28.

They were also joined by Dr Daniel’s wife Jess, who raised more than £2,650 for Shipston Home Nursing.

“It was one of the best things I have ever done,” said Mr Lindon. “There was just some of the most breathtaking scenery I’ve ever seen in my life. It really made me appreciate Scotland.

“The views from the top of Ben Nevis were just heart-breakingly good. It was so amazing to be above the clouds and being able to see mountains poking through.

“I can only compare it to Canada and New Zealand.”

However, the 34-year-old said the adventure was not simply a sight-seeing exercise. “Scafell Pike was hard work, I didn’t particularly enjoy it,” he added.

“I’m going to go back and do it in the sunshine.”

Your Worcester News previously reported how Mr Lindon defied the odds by naturally fathering a miracle baby girl despite undergoing more than 54 cycles of chemotherapy. The very rare form of brain cancer, called grade 2 gioblastoma multiforme, affects two to three people per 100,000 in America and Europe, and it proved inoperable due to its position in the central part of Mr Lindon’s brain. But he and his fiancée Kate McCreanor, 30, were overjoyed when five pregnancy tests all returned positive.

One year on, baby Martha is doing really well and celebrated her first birthday last month. “She had a lovely birthday party,” said her proud father. She had lots of lovely presents. She’s walking around the place now, gabbling.” To sponsor Mr Lindon visit justgiving.com/ BenLindon.
