TO mark the construction of a new £24.5 million learning campus in Kidderminster, users of the site buried a time capsule.

The Habberley Learning Campus is currently being built on a site that was occupied by Baxter College and St John’s Primary School and the development will create a shared learning environment for the two schools, as well as Wyre Forest Special School.

The schools decided on items they would like to put in the capsule, which will be reopened in 2062 - 50 years time.

Items included a USB full of school photos, a 2013-2014 school planner and a Baxter College school tie.

The capsule was buried by pupils of the schools, witnessed by Wyre Forest District Council chairman, Stephen Williams, members of construction team Speller Metcalfe and members of staff.

David Seddon, headteacher of Baxter College, said: “The time capsule burial has been a great way to celebrate this exciting new project, which will offer the children within our community the facilities that they deserve.”

The project, designed by Worcestershire County Council architects, includes a new special school for 220 pupils, a 13-laboratory science block and a shared early years hub.

There will also be residential accommodation for 16 pupils and improvements to St John’s CE Primary School.

A floodlit artificial grass pitch and associated car parking and landscape works also form part of the plans.

Steve Clark, assistant site manager for Speller Metcalfe, said: “It’s fantastic to be here and see the children celebrate the construction of this project, which will bring real benefits to the local community of Kidderminster.

“The joint vision by all three schools is to develop opportunities through shared facilities and opportunities and will aid the educational development of each pupil at Habberley Learning Campus.”
