SERVICES which are available to senior residents of Wyre Forest were showcased at Kidderminster Town Hall.

The event, opened by BBC Midlands Today presenter Nick Owen, offered free information and advice regarding healthy living, finances, benefits and local services to older people.

More than 200 people attended the event, which featured activities, demonstrations and sessions from 30 organisations which support the elderly.

Organisations which attended the showcase included the MS Society, Tax Help for Older People, Wyre Forest Community Housing, Alzheimer’s Society and Stroke Association.

The day was run by Age UK Wyre Forest, whose chief officer, Steve Blick, said it was something the charity organises as a responsibility to the community.

“For the past two years we have taken on the responsibility to run the showcase, as we see it as our service to the elderly people of Wyre Forest," he explained.

“We are pleased to be able to engage with a lot of elderly people across Wyre Forest in this way.

“Nick Owen was great. He was surprised with the number of organisations that are out there to help senior members of the area.

“One of the comments he made was that there were many organisations at the showcase which people do not know about so it’s a good opportunity for them to put their names out there.”

Various activities were available for visitors to join in with throughout the day, such as laughter yoga, cookery demonstrations and gentle exercise routines.

Mr Blick said: “All the activities were very popular with the visitors and a lot of people took part in them.

“One of the favourites was the sitting down circle dancing, which provides exercise for people who have limited mobility.

“The whole day went according to plan and the feedback we received from the exhibitors and the visitors was very positive.”
