THE Mayor of Stourport is inviting friends, colleagues and Wyre Forest residents to an Indian feast to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Councillor Cliff Brewer is holding two sittings at Severn Tandoori, in Bridge Street, on Wednesday, September 17, one from 7pm until 9pm and a second from 9pm until 11pm.

The evening is being held as part of Mr Brewer’s programme of activities to raise funds and awareness of Macmillan cancer care services for the residents of Wyre Forest.

Funds raised at the evening will ensure people who receive a cancer diagnosis in the area have the medical, practical, financial and emotional support they need.

Mr Brewer said: “I have chosen Macmillan as my charity for my mayoral year as the organisation, particularly the nurses, do wonderful work in the care of cancer patients.

“I know that many people and families from the Wyre Forest area and Stourport in particular benefit from the support given by Macmillan.”

Kelly Whitehouse, fundraising manager for Macmillan in Worcestershire, said the evening is set to be a warm and uplifting occasion.

She said: “Councillor Brewer, his consorts Frances and Stephanie Brewer and town clerk Debbie Butler are working with such drive, passion and enthusiasm in aid of Macmillan over the course of the next 12 months.

“It’s such a positive way to involve the local community in supporting Macmillan’s local cancer care services during his term in office.”

As well as the Indian Feast, during his mayoral year Mr Brewer will be holding a Gatsby evening, a quiz evening, a race night, a local talent variety evening, a sky jump and a grand charity ball in aid of Macmillan.

Money raised by Macmillan will help fund care services, such as information and counselling centres, specialist medical staff and grants for people with cancer who are in financial difficulty.
