AN INAUGRAL classic car event in Wyre Forest has raised more than £2,300 for a charity that provides lifesaving hospital equipment.

The Chaddesley Corbett Classic Car and Bike Show featured about 100 classic cars and bikes including Jaguar E-Types, Austins and Lotus racing vehicles.

There was also a competition for the most desirable cars and bikes, judged by TV presenter of the Gadget Show and former host of Top Gear and Fifth Gear, Jon Bentley.

The show gave out prizes to the winners of the various categories as well as holding a fundraising raffle which collected funds for Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer.

Jim Wright, one of the organisers, said: “It was a great day and we had just less than 100 classic cars and bikes on display.

“From the feedback we received on the day I am pretty sure that most people had a really good time.”

The money will help Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer, a group of local volunteers who provide lifesaving hospital equipment.

The charity was set up 14 years ago and has so far donated equipment worth more than £1 million, which the NHS is unable to fund, to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

Veronica Kumeta, co-founder of the charity, said: “We are extremely grateful for the support of local people who fundraise for us.

“It was a wonderful event which will help not just raise money, but awareness for the charity and a cause which local people can get behind.”
