TWO Stourport teenagers have raised more than £2,000 for St Richard’s Hospice after jumping out of a plane thousands of feet above the ground.

Sophie Jancey and Charlotte Gould, both 16, decided to raise money for the Worcester-based hospice, by taking part in a skydive, as they both had grandparents who were looked after there.

Vicky Shipton, Sophie’s mother, said: “Twelve months ago Sophie’s nan was diagnosed with cancer and was ill in hospital.

“She got a space in St Richard’s Hospice and was looked after really well by all the staff there.

“Sophie wanted to give something back to them for the help they gave us.”

Sophie said: “They catered for all my family despite there being so many of us and dealt with my nan in a very caring and dignified way.

“Charlotte’s grandpa was in the hospice as well and we both believe it is such an important place to thank for their fantastic work.”

The duo, who both attend Stourport High School and Sixth Form Centre, completed their skydive earlier this month, in Northamptonshire, after raising a minimum of £500 each to take to the skies.

After the dive, Sophie said: “I loved every minute and will be doing it again next year.

“I am overwhelmed by how much I have raised and was pleased to be able to give something back to the charity that cared for my grandma.”

While Charlotte added: “The skydive was absolutely amazing – I would love to do it all over again.

“I am overwhelmed with the money I have raised and feel proud to have fundraised for such a fantastic charity.”

Both of the girls wanted to thank all those who have donated to their skydive and to those who supported them on the day.

St Richard’s Hospice cares for patients and families in Worcestershire who are living with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
