ONE hundred bales of straw which were alight in Low Habberley took fire crews more than 24 hours to extinguish.

Kidderminster fire station crews were alerted to the blaze at 5.20pm on Monday afternoon and, with the help of other Worcestershire firefighters, finally put the fire out by 5.40pm on Tuesday.

The fire was kept under control by Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Services, who spent most of the Tuesday dragging out the one-tonne bales as well as dampening the area with a hose reel to stop the fire from spreading.

Six fire engines, support vehicles and a water carrier from Leominster have attended the incident on land off the main road.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
