WAITROSE in Alcester donated another £1,000 through their green token scheme to three local organisations in need of a cash boost.

The Nationwide Association of Blood Bikes, Coughton C of E Primary School and the Animal Rescue & Rehabilitation Society each received a contribution in relation to the amount tokens they received from members of the public.

Coughton C of E Primary School will use the money for a new greenhouse after the last one was damaged in severe weather conditions.

Blood Bikes, a voluntary organisation which provides an out of hours courier service to hospitals and other health institutions, will put the money towards petrol.

Pete Burnet , customer service manager at Waitrose Alcester, said: "We here at Waitrose in Alcester are so proud of what we have achieved in our local community during the five years we have been open, in fact we have given an excess of £60,000 towards helping our local community.

“The green token scheme enables all customers who shop with us, to decide how money we give out each month is distributed - the children in particular, love the tokens and take great care when making their choice. The community matters scheme is open to any local good causes and each month three are chosen by a group of our partners and there is a waiting list."

Each Waitrose store gives £12,000 away per year through the scheme.
