PARAMEDICS were called to Stourbridge Rugby Club yesterday (October 18) after a player stopped breathing during a match.

The incident took place during a game between the Stourton Park club’s first team and Otley Rugby Club.

The Otley player, Ben Fairclough, was left unconscious following a tackle during which it is believed he swallowed his tongue.

Stourbridge club doctors revived the player and an ambulance was called. The incident took place at around 3.35pm, the teams left the field while the injured player was immobilised before being carried on a stretcher to the waiting ambulance.

Play restarted after a delay of around 30 minutes.
