A FISHING club which aims to get children aged six to 16 interested in angling is appealing for more sponsorship to avoid closure.

Matchborough Junior Fishing Club takes between 10 and 14 children fishing for four-hour sessions at least twice a month.

The money is needed to provide equipment such as bait and tackle, along with venue hire for an annual ceremony to present a trophies and certificates to those who have caught the most fish.

Dean Fisher, club owner, said: “We don’t want to fold, we have work hard to keep it going. We need somebody to give us a chance to make this club a success.

“We are not looking for hundreds of pounds.”

The group is supported by team of 10 leaders, along with parents who often join their children during the sessions.
