PEOPLE in Worcester are gearing up to raise money for children all around the world.

Big-hearted fundraisers will be doing their bit for Children in Need, which takes place tomorrow.

Driving instructors around the UK and Ireland have been taking the show on the road in an event called the Big Learner Relay.

This sees instructors and pupils passing the 'L plate headboard' from car to car across cities, and yesterday the baton came to Worcester, carried by instructors Marc Ford and Karen Martens, among others.

Hylton Nissan and Renault on Bromyard Road and Hylton St Peter's Peugeot and Suzuki on Bath Road will donate £50 to the campaign for every vehicle purchased until Saturday.

The two dealers will also be holding a day of fun, games and superheroes as staff dress up on Friday and a range of cakes and tea will also be on offer.

A lapdancing club in Worcester is also getting in on the fundraising action.

Greggs stores in the city are holding a Children in Need raffle, where people can buy a raffle ticket for £1 for the chance to win prizes.

The collections at the Black Cherry in Lowesmoor, Worcester, will take place between 10pm and 4.30am until Saturday. There is a safe in the club for larger deposits such as cheques.

Schools are also taking up the challenge.

Bewdley Primary School will roll out the red carpet for the premiere of their first charity single of 'God Only Knows' by the Beach Boys while children and staff at Welland Pre-school near Malvern will be wearing spotty clothes and making cakes to raise vital funds.

Children at Early Doors Day Nursery in Powick have spent the week as superheroes, in line with this year's theme for Children in Need.

The nursery also had a spooky cake sale on Halloween, and all money raised from that will go towards the campaign.

The team at Happylands Private Day Nursery in Warndon Villages are holding a pyjama day on Friday and children at St Clement's Primary School in St John's have designed and created their very own superhero costumes.

Julie Webster, a teaching assistant at the school, said:" It should be a really good, fun day. We held an assembly based around Children in Need too to let children know that even though the pound they are donating may seem small, altogether and with added gift aid we could raise around £250, so it all helps."

Karen Reynolds, a teaching assistant at the Oasis Warndon Academy, said the children are either dressing up as superheroes or wearing red for Children in Need tomorrow.

"They are all really excited. There has been a lot of talk of Batman costumes but some children will also be wearing their football kits, so they are really looking forward to it," she said.
