A MAN crashed his car after drinking to celebrate a promotion, a court has heard.

Lukasz Michal Klys, of Oakleigh Road, Droitwich, had been in Worcester city centre celebrating a recent promotion at work on November 1.

The court heard how the 31-year-old, who pleaded guilty at Worcester Magistrates' Court on Monday to driving while above the legal alcohol limit, had been driving down Lowesmoor when he crashed his Audi in to a parked car, which was empty at the time.

Adrian Jones, prosecuting, said: "The Audi and the other vehicle were badly damaged. Police arrived and Mr Klys was breathalysed and he went to the police station. He had 67mcg in 100ml of breath. When he arrived at the station he kept on saying "what have I done" and "I have been so stupid". This will be his second conviction for drink driving in the last ten years."

Christopher Aggrey, defending, said: "He doesn't have a large record. Mr Klys trains forklift drivers all around the country. He is trusted and experienced and very reliable. On the night he had been celebrating a promotion at work. He got carried away drinking with colleagues and he didn't have enough money for a taxi home. He foolishly decided to move his car, and he intended to move it to a safe parking spot but he crashed. He was very polite and co-operative with police and he is remorseful. He stands to lose his job."

Deputy district judge Bal Dhaliwal sentenced Klys to a 12 month community order and to 80 hours of unpaid work. He was disqualified from driving for three years and was ordered to pay court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £60.
