THE deputy headteacher of a Worcester school has completed her marathon challenge to raise hundreds of pounds for her school.

Judith Gudgeon, the deputy headteacher of Fort Royal Community Primary School — a school for children with additional needs — took on the Amsterdam Marathon in October.

Mrs Gudgeon ran the 42km through the city to raise money to refurbish an adventure area at the school.

After totalling up the amount raised, Mrs Gudgeon found she had £800 to put towards the £17,000 needed to refurbish the play area.

"It was fantastic. The atmosphere was amazing and the start and finish was in the Olympic Stadium, so running back in to the stadium at the end of the marathon and doing a lap of the track made you feel like a real athlete," she said.

"I completed the marathon in five hours and 18 minutes. It's my fourth marathon and each one has been brilliant in their own way.

"When I came back to school the children wanted to see my medal. I think some of the staff think I'm a bit mad but it keeps me fit."
