AN ADVERTISING campaign is urging people to stop and think before going to accident and emergency departments this winter.

The ‘Is A&E for Me?’ campaign, which is led by NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) in Worcestershire in partnership with Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and Worcestershire County Council, will see campaign adverts on buses advise people about whether they really need emergency treatment over the busy winter period.

Minor Injury Units provide fast, expert care for conditions such as sprains and strains, cuts, wounds and minor burns.

Ruth Davoll, urgent care lead for the three Worcestershire CCGs, said: “Having information about the campaign on buses and bus stops is a great way of communicating our key messages to an audience that might not otherwise see it.

“We really want people to remember that A&E is for life threatening and emergency situations only. There’s a range of other healthcare facilities available across the county that can deal with a wide range of minor injuries and illnesses.

“If you require advice and treatment when your GP surgery is closed, you can call NHS 111 or visit an alternative health service such as your local pharmacist or Minor Injury Unit.”
