THE bells rang out in a Worcestershire village to mark an important anniversary for the local pub.

The Martley Bellringers chimed out a quarter peal for a full 45 minutes on Tuesday at the church of St Bartholomew in Grimley to mark the 75th anniversary of the Wainwright family being at the Camp House Inn.

The family have celebrated with various events over the last few months, but Lyn Wainwright, who runs the pub with husband Jim, said it was very "meaningful" for the bellringers to perform for them.

"It was quite an emotional feeling to hear them and to feel respected in that way," Mrs Wainwright said.

Jo Wainwright-Scarrot, assistant manager and daughter of landlord Jim Wainwright, said: "It was even more so as my brother, Alan Wainwright, rang out the tenor bell which my Grandad used to ring. It's the oldest tenor bell in the country. It was fantastic."

The pub has spent the last few months recovering from a fire which gutted the kitchen of the pub in July.

The kitchen is now back up and running and the celebrations will continue tomorrow with entertainment from 2pm from the Faithful City Morris Men, Soft Option Appalachian Dancers, Dan Greenaway and a disco with DJ Simmo.
