THE fiancé of a man killed in a collision in Wolverly Road on Sunday has paid tribute to her “loveable rogue” – a family man with a good heart.

Martin Downs, 37, of Kidderminster, leaves behind his fiancé, Liz Jones, three daughters Demi, 16, Caitlin, nine, and Scarlet, five, and 11-year-old son Sam.

Growing up in Kidderminster, Martin first met his childhood sweetheart Liz at Hagley Catholic High School when they were 11-years-old.

They were together throughout school and reunited again aged 23 and have been engaged for the past 12 years.

Liz described Martin as “a grafter whose focus was on supporting his family”.

She said: “He loved us dearly and was very devoted to us and our happiness. He worked as a civil engineer at a construction company and was a perfectionist in everything he did.

“He was a home bird, always building things, and he worked really hard to look after us - he was our hero.

“He could be quiet but he liked socialising and was liked by a lot of people.

“He was my loveable rogue, and overall I’d like him to be remembered as a family man with a good heart and a fantastic sense of humour – always making us laugh every day.

“Words cannot describe the massive void he has left in all of our lives. We miss and love him so much.

“I would like to thank all of our family and friends for their support over the past difficult few days.”

West Mercia Police are still appealing for witnesses following the collision which occurred at around 6.55pm, close to the junction with Sion Hill.

Martin was pronounced dead at the scene after he was hit by a Renault Meganne travelling towards Wolverly and a Peugeot 407 travelling in the opposite direction.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or saw either vehicle prior to the collision, is urged to contact police on 101 quoting incident number 458 of 11th January 2015.

Martin's funeral arrangements are yet to be made.
