WITH seasonal illnesses beginning to circulate, Wyre Forest health chiefs want to highlight the telephone health service available to help people access the right health services.

NHS Wyre Forest Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is urging residents to call the free NHS 111 number before heading to A&E for non-emergency situations.

Ruth Davoll, urgent care lead, said: “We ask the public to think before they go to A&E or call 999.

“These services need to be free to deal with real emergencies and should only be used in genuine emergency situations.

“Telephone services such as NHS111 are designed to offer answers, reassurance, advice and support you need as well as being convenient and open around the clock.”

The number, which is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, is manned by trained call handlers who can provide health advice, direct callers to the right service, arrange for callers to be seen by a doctor, or call an ambulance.

Callers’ symptoms are assessed, with nurses on hand to offer support if needed, and are given the healthcare advice needed or are directed immediately to the right service.
