COURSES teaching parents how to save a baby from choking will begin in Worcester next week.

People can learn basic life-saving skills including how to deal with choking in children and adults, chest pain, severe bleeding and CPR techniques at courses run by St John Ambulance, after 73 per cent of parents in the city said they don't know how to correctly save a baby from choking.

A course will be held on Saturday, February 28 at the base in Wyld's Lane from 9am to 4pm.

Emma Elgerton, community training co-ordinator for St John Ambulance in the West Midlands, said: "Our successful new year campaign, the Chokeables, showed that having a baby is a time when people start to get worried and think about learning first aid. We are offering people a great, low-cost opportunity at convenient times to get some practical skills to save the lives of their children, family and friends.

"At a St John Ambulance course, you’ll learn to be the difference between life and death. You never know when you might need first aid, it could be at home, at work or just out and about."

Courses start from £30.
