A MAN who admitted assaulting a paramedic in Malvern did not attend an appointment with the probation service as he was not aware it had been scheduled, a court was told.

Jonathan Finch, of Golden Valley, Castlemorton, near Malvern, appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court on Monday, February 9, after previously pleading guilty to the assault on Friday, December 12 last year and damaging a car on the same day.

Although the 24-year-old had pleaded guilty to the offence on a previous appearance on January 2 and was bailed for a pre-sentence report, the court heard he had not attended a scheduled appointment with the probation service.

Finch said he was not aware of the appointment as he had recently moved out of his cousin’s house in Powick and in with his mother in Castlemorton, and had not received a letter.

The court also heard he had recently been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, but was not sure if this was before or after the offence.

District Judge Nigel Cadbury bailed Finch again on the condition he stays at his mother’s house and cooperates with the probation service, and returns to court for sentencing on Friday, March 6.
