WORCESTER mums and daughters are being invited to spend quality time together at this year's Race for Life.

The race, which raises money for Cancer Research UK and takes place at Worcester Racecourse on Saturday, May 30 and Sunday, May 31, is open to all women around the county who want to run, jog or walk their way around a 5k or 10k walk or a new mud run.

Last year, 2,997 women in Worcester pulled on their trainers and raised £162,700 for life-saving research.

This year, organisers need more than 3,000 women to take part in Race for Life 5k and 10k, and are hoping an additional 3,600 will sign up for Pretty Muddy.

Kelly Rumble, Race for Life event manager, said: “We are urging women in Worcestershire to give their mums a unique gift this Mother’s Day, by signing up to Race for Life together. The feel-good factor that comes from being part of an army of women ready to show cancer who’s boss will last long after the event is over.

“My mother passed away with cancer in 2004 and I know if she survived we’d be doing Race for Life together, so now I do it in memory of her instead. Mother’s Day is the special occasion when we acknowledge that universal truth — it’s mums who make the world go round and I really miss mine.

“We all know how determined mothers can be when they really make up their minds to do something. We want to channel that power and energy into a unique force that will help conquer cancer sooner.”
