THE fires have been relit and chimneys restored in the National Trust run Kinver Edge Rock Houses.

Following collaboration between the National Trust, local advisory committee, benefactors and volunteers, the crooked chimneys and convoluted flues have been brought back to their former glory.

Using heritage bricks donated by Ruskin Glasshouse College, the local Kinver Edge Committee has led a project to complete the final piece of the restoration.

Volunteers cleaned and collected the donated bricks, and a local builder has restored the final quirky pieces of the structure.

Steve Anderson, project manager for the chimney restoration, said: “There was a time, not so long ago, when the talk was of demolishing the rock houses for safety reasons, so it’s brilliant to think that their future is secure once more.”

Benefactors and supporters involved in the restoration will formally unveil the new chimneys today, with Pat Kirkham of the Ken Wrigley Memorial Charity cutting the ribbon.

Visitors will be able to warm themselves by the fires and take a look at the newly restored crooked chimneys from tomorrow (March 19).
