CHILDREN from a Kidderminster school were invited to the Houses of Parliament in recognition of the journey the school has been on over the last twelve months.

In May 2013, Heronswood Primary School, in Heronswood Road, was placed into special measures. From that point, the school embarked on a journey which would see it climb from special measures to good within one academic year.

In celebration, the Year Six pupils took a tour of all the main sites on their visit to London, including the National History Museum, Buckingham Palace and Trafalgar Square. But the main focus of the visit was the visit to the Houses of Parliament.

The children had to go through airport style security before entering the main hall, where they were met by tour guides. The children enjoyed the tour, including seeing the House of Commons and the beautiful gold throne where Queen Elizabeth gives her speeches from.

Mrs Millhouse, a Year Five and Six teacher at the school, said: "It was such an honour to be invited to the Houses of Parliament.

“It is testament to all the hard work from both the staff and children to ensure rapid and sustained improvement.

“The visit to London both highlighted and confirmed our commitment to ensuring the very best education and opportunities for all our children."
