THE sights and sounds of the First World War will be all around at a Worcestershire museum.

The Elgar Birthplace Museum in Lower Broadheath will hold a Keep the Home Fires Burning event from Saturday to April 12.

There will be musical shows and wartime activities running from 11am to 4.30pm.

The Stringcredibles, from the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, will perform wartime tunes on Saturday and people can join in with games, learn about wartime first aid and send coded messages.

Lily Dean, graduate trainee, said: “The First World War was such a significant event in Elgar’s life, and so it is important for the museum to recognise the centenary commemorations. The ‘Tunes from the Trenches’ performances are a perfect mix of beautiful music and jolly wartime songs to sing along to.”

The event is free with museum admission.
