A STOURBRIDGE stroke victim is set to run the Great Birmingham 10k to raise money for Dudley Stroke Association.

Sarah Hall, a savings administrator, will run in the race on May 3 after suffering from a stroke last year once she finished training at the gym.

The 34-year-old had been preparing for a half marathon when the condition struck, meaning she was unable to take part.

Her boyfriend, Lee Bragginton, 37, went on to run it alone and raised £1,000 for the charity. Sarah said this has made her even more determined to cross this year’s finish line.

She said: “I'm so lucky to be here and still have my sight and physical functions. May 3 is close to the first anniversary of my stroke; I will be very emotional crossing the finish line.

“I know many people that Dudley Stroke Association help are not as fortunate.

“They have provided me with amazing support through their support groups and meetings and I am keen to raise as much as possible to give something back.”

Sarah’s symptoms included headaches, nausea and exhaustion, rather than the loss of function which is usually associated with the condition.

Although she still suffers from tiredness and some cognitive problems, she is on the road to recovery and now hopes to raise awareness about the less common stroke symptoms.

Sarah aims to raise £500 for the stroke association and is well on her way to reaching her total after passing the £300 mark.
