A HOSPICE volunteer raised more than £1,000 after asking guests to give donations rather than gifts at her Golden Anniversary party.

Pauline and Tony Price, who live in Worcester, celebrated 50 years of marriage with a party in March.

Mrs Price, who has volunteered at Acorns Children's Hospice since it opened, asked for donations to the hospice in lieu of gifts, and managed to raise £1,186 in total.

Jayne Charles, community fundraising officer at Acorns, said: “We’re very grateful to Pauline and her husband for marking their anniversary with this kind donation. The money raised will be hugely beneficial to the children and young people we care for and the families who receive our support. It costs more than £8million per year to provide our services and we rely on fundraising to provide the majority of that amount.”
