A FARMER has spoken of his anger at rubbish being dumped along a stretch of road near Worcester — and at how long it may take to get it cleaned up.

Rick Gomm said he first spotted the rubbish — a mixture of chairs, scraps of metal, broken wardrobes and bags filled with rubbish — dumped along a 50 metre stretch of Claphill Lane in Rushwick on Thursday, April 2.

He said he reported the incident of fly-tipping to Malvern Hills District Council, which sent out workers to put cones around the rubbish, which obstructs half of the road.

However, Mr Gomm said he is angry that he was told by the council that the rubbish may not be moved for another two to three weeks.

"It's disgusting. The rubbish has just been dumped along the road, and it's taking up such a large area that cars have to use just the one side of the road to drive down. It's not just a mess, it's a danger too. Cones with flashing lights have been placed around the rubbish," he said.

"Drivers have been pulling over to stop and look to see if there is anything they can take. That's fine, but I had a delivery of fuel the other day and the driver had parked in my driveway and was blocking the way for the fuel wagon.

"The fact that it's going to be just left there for possibly another two weeks, because apparently it isn't considered a priority, is not good enough. It's ridiculous that we have to go through all this, and go to the press to try and get something done about it sooner. It really needs to be moved, I don't really know what we're paying our council tax for."

Gordon Morris, street scene team manager at Malvern Hills District Council, said: “We can confirm the rubbish has been in place since last Thursday but due to the Easter break we only received the report about this incident today (Wednesday, April 8). We immediately issued an instruction to our team to go out and clear the rubbish and that will be done as soon as possible.

“Malvern Hills District Council takes fly tipping very seriously and will investigate this matter further once the rubbish is cleared. We apologise for the delay in clearing the rubbish on this occasion.”
