THE Ministry of Sound is coming to Hereford for the first time this summer.

The international dance brand holds events across the world and on August 29 will play host at the Left Bank.

The evening has been organised by Hereford businessmen Martin Corns, from MC Home Improvements, and Giovanni Calandra, from Calandras Menswear.

There are 1,500 tickets available, with the VIP area already sold out.

Mr Corns said: "We had a contact at the Ministry of Sound for a few years. We always mentioned about doing something but it was always a 'No chance- no hope of us coming to Hereford.'

"Then we spoke to these guys at the Left Bank and then the Ministry said they would be interested."

There will be two Ministry of Sound DJs as headline acts, with other DJs from Herefordshire and around the country across the three floors.

If it is successful they hope to hold events twice a year.

Mr Calandra said: "We are doing it as a positive for Hereford. Obviously there are great venues like Saxtys and Play.

"The Left Bank is a fantastic venue also and it needs to be utilised. This venue will be a 5* club for the Ministry to play from for the evening."

The ground and middle floor will play 90s and 00s remixes to contemporary house. The rooftop terrace will be a VIP area.

Mr Corns said: "Back in the day, as they say, Hereford was quite an exciting place to go out. There were lots of things to do and a lot of good venues.

"That seems to have disappeared over the last 10 to 15 years, depending on the price of alcohol and social media. It has become a bit stale."

He remembered the days of the popularity of the house scene and the Crystal Rooms in Bridge Street, which closed in May 2004.

Mr Calandra said: "We are trying to do something different. We are not bringing back the 1990s- they have gone. But we will have an evening to reminisce and enjoy listening to good music."

Left Bank owner Gary Waring, operations manager Rob Mitchell and events coordinator Zeb Byrne are looking forward to the event, which will have a 15 person security team.

The evening is also in association with Weekend Offender and Religion Clothing.

It takes place on Saturday, August 29 from 8pm to 3am. Tickets are £20. Go to the Left Bank Facebook page to buy tickets.
