A BIG hearted gesture from a school pupil brought a tear to the eye of her headteacher.

Leila Webster, a pupil at Bitterley Primary School, received a certificate of thanks from Save The Children after going without presents for her 10th birthday and asking for donations to its Ebola appeal instead.

Her generosity raised £260 and she donated all of the money.

"When the Ebola crisis was kicking off there were adverts on TV about the appeal and they really touched her," said head Will Davies.

"She decided to do something about it and waited for her birthday.

"It's amazing and has brought a tear to my eye.

"She did not have any presents whatsoever and in this day and age that is pretty unusual."

Save The Children teams are on the ground in West Africa responding to the Ebola outbreak which has killed more than 10,000 people in Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Mali, and Nigeria.

The charity has been running treatment centres for patients, supporting children and raising awareness of how to prevent infection.

But it asked members of the public for help to bring this deadly epidemic under control
