BOROUGH residents are being invited to visit one of Dudley’s dementia gateways to chat about the sings, symptoms and treatment of the condition – over a cup of coffee.
The invite has been sent out by the Alzheimer’s Society as part of National Dementia Awareness Week, which is running from May 18 to 24.
Dudley’s dementia gateways will be holding a whole host of activities and events in the community during the week, all aimed at raising people’s awareness of dementia and helping people become less fearful and more accepting of the condition.
Councillor Dave Branwood, cabinet member elect for adult social care, said: “Our dementia gateways have received national accolades for the quality of services provided and as part of Dementia Awareness Week I would encourage as many people as possible to get involved in the range of activities on offer.
“As life expectancy increases, with people living longer and longer, the numbers of residents suffering from or impacted by dementia will increase.
“If we all become better informed about dementia then this will increase the chances of people affected by the condition continuing to lead active and fulfilling lives.”
The three gateways, which will be open between 10am and 3pm during the week, are located in Brettell Lane, Brierley Hill; Tunnel Street, Coseley; and Old Hawne Lane, Halesowen.
