A TALENTED young singer from Worcester has recorded a special tribute to fundraiser Stephen Sutton on the first anniversary of his death.

In tribute to the inspirational teenager, who was only 19 when he died of colorectal cancer one year ago today, May 14, 12-year-old Nathan Williams recorded a treble version of Can You Feel the Love Tonight from The Lion King, which he has posted on YouTube.

Mum Rebecca, who has also launched a fundraising campaign for the Teenage Cancer Trust in memory of Mr Sutton called Thumbs Up in May, said she and Nathan had both spoken to the teenager on the phone the week before he died and had both promised to do something in his memory.

”When he spoke to Stephen Nathan said he wanted to do something in his memory but didn’t know what to do,” she said. “Stephen said ‘What can you do’ and he said ‘Well, I can sing’.

“So Stephen said ‘Then sing’.”

“We hope people will listen to it and it’ll prompt them to donate to the campaign.”

As well as donating Mrs Williams is also asking supporters to take selfies of themselves giving the thumbs-up sign – inspired by the iconic photo of Mr Sutton giving the thumbs-up from his hospital bed – and post them on twitter to the account @teenagecancer or on Facebook using the hadhtag #ThumbsUpInMay.

“I personally truly believe that it may never be possible to raise enough money to fight cancer, but we can all do our bit to make a difference,” she said. “Every donation will make a difference and is very much appreciated.”

Before his death Mr Sutton, from Burntwood, Staffodshire, launched a fundraising campaign in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust, which raised more than £4.5 million for the charity.
