FORMER Spice Girl and Heart Radio DJ Emma Bunton has teamed up with a Stourbridge opticians to launch a new spectacle wearers competition.

Specsavers’ Wannabe Spectacle Wearer of the Year will also help anti-bullying charity Kidscape with the optical firm donating £1 to the cause for every eligible competition entry.

The money raised will help the charity in providing training, support and advice for children, parents, schools and those who may be affected by cases of bullying and abuse.

Emma, who is also the face of Specsavers’ Love Glasses campaign, said: “I’ve been wearing glasses for years, even before I needed a prescription. I wore them without lenses because I think they’re a great way to accessorise.

“I think the good thing about the range available now is that you can have so much fun with them.”

The overall winner of competition will be presented with £10,000 in cash and a stay at the Atlantis Paradise Island, Bahamas, which will be presented later this year at a star-studded event in central London.

Terry Tam, store director at Specsavers in Stourbridge, said: “We want to celebrate the specs-wearing superstars in Stourbridge.

“The Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards offer the perfect opportunity for men and women of any age to show how fabulous they look in glasses and to wear their specs with pride.”

There are five age categories – 16 to 24, 25 to 34, 35 to 44, 45 to 59 and over 60s – plus a Facebook favourite voted for by the public.

Glasses wearers can enter the competition online at www.specsavers.co.uk/loveglasses, www.facebook.com/specsavers or by visiting the Stourbridge Specsavers store.
