A MAN who popped out for milk after entertaining guests has been banned from driving for two years after police stopped him for drink-driving.

Allan Robertson, 60, of Victoria House, The Old School House, Bridstow, near Ross-on-Wye pleaded guilty to drink-driving at Hereford Magistrates Court.

He was stopped on the A49 in Bridstow on May 4 by officers in an unmarked police car and had 91mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath- the legal limit is 35mg.

The court heard officers had seen Robertson's vehicle mount the verge as he drove towards Wilton roundabout at 6pm.

Chris Read, defending, said Robertson had been entertaining guests at his home during the day.

When they left, Robertson realised he had run out of milk, and as he didn't think he would be over the limit as he had been drinking slowly all day, he decided to drive to the shop.

Robertson was banned from driving for 24 months, which can be reduced by six months if he takes a drink-drive rehabilitation course.

He was given a 12 month community order with 150 hours of unpaid work.

He was ordered to pay £85 costs, a £150 criminal court charge and £60 victim surcharge.
