BRAZEN flytippers have dumped so much rubbish they have blocked a country road in Worcestershire.

Rubbish dumped at Heightington Lane, near Dunley, Stourport-on-Severn on Saturday evening included bricks, bags of earth and a shoe.

The road will not reopen until tomorrow lunchtime at the earliest.

Carole Hender, who took these photographs of the mess, said the road was still closed today (Monday) but that some cars and motorcycles were going through the barrier although larger vehicles would not be able to get through.

Mrs Hender who lives nearby took the photographs in the hope someone might recognise the the discarded material discarded and come forward.

She said on Saturday: "It could have caused a serious accident. It's on a steep hill on a corner and was dumped late last night. The council was here at about 10pm but have only closed the road not attempted to clear it.

"There is a lay-by 200 yards away, that often has fly tipping. They didn't even bother to dump it there. "

She told the Worcester News today: "I am absolutely amazed at the audacity of them dumping it in the middle of the road which is not only an eyesore but a physical danger to motorists."

The photographs show a mound of earth blocking a large part of the road. Barriers and road closed signs have been put up to warn motorists of the hazard.

A spokesperson for Worcestershire County Council said council workers attended on Saturday to make the road safe. She said Wyre Forest District Council, which is responsible for clearing the waste, would not be able to remove it until lunchtime today (Tuesday) at which time the road should reopen.

A spokesperson from West Mercia Police said: “Those who do not dispose of waste material through the proper methods should be warned that, fly-tipping of waste is illegal and constitutes a serious offence for which a person can be prosecuted.
“If you see anyone doing such act, then you should contact your local council to report this, ensuing that you gather any evidence to support such offence.”
