MORE than 1,000 people took the rain with the sunshine when they ventured out to Hanbury Hall's village fete on Saturday.

Visitors could browse a number of stalls selling food, drink and local craft items as well as take part in a tombola and enjoy live music throughout the day.

A host of vintage vehicles were also available to explore in the grounds of the National Trust-owned stately home near Droitwich.

Visitor services manager, Rachael Trimm, said the rain didn't scare people away.

"We had a really good turn out, and when the sun shone you could see people were really enjoying themselves. There was a lot to see and do, and the actual fete was opened by one of our volunteers dressed up as Sir Thomas Vernon, who built Hanbury Hall," she said.

"We've hosted the event for several years. Back in the 1950s, the Vernons used to host the village fete on the land so it is a local tradition."
