THERE is still time to sign up to one of Worcester's biggest fundraising events.

Cancer Research UK’s Relay For Life in Worcester sees hundreds of people team up to take part in a relay marathon over the weekend of Saturday, September 12 and Sunday, September 13.

Teams of men, women and children have already signed up for the 24 hour marathon which will take place at the RGS The Grange School, Grange Lane in Fernhill Heath.

Lezley Moran, volunteer chairman of Relay For Life in Worcester, said: “Relay For Life is a great way to spend time with your friends, family and colleagues while raising money for a seriously worth-while cause. Everyone knows someone who has been touched by cancer. Taking part in Relay For Life is a positive way to be part of your local community and help make a stand against cancer.

“We would love to hear from anyone who wants to find out more how they can get involved. It doesn’t matter if they haven’t fundraised before. This is a unique event and every single person in Worcester and surrounding areas of Worcestershire or Herefordshire can play a part.”

During the event, team members take it in turns to walk round a track while everyone else enjoys the festival atmosphere.

Participants are asked to raise as much money as possible in the months leading up to the overnight celebration, through a range of activities from karaoke competitions to quizzes, supermarket bag-packs, charity balls, and securing donations from friends, family and work colleagues.

There will be music and entertainment throughout the event to keep spirits up, as well as a Candle of Hope ceremony to remember loved ones.
