THREE new honorary Canons have been appointed at Worcester Cathedral.
The Rev John Barr, vicar of Great Malvern, the Rev Rosemary Lawley, rector of Kidderminster Ismere and Faith at Work in Worcestershire Chaplain and the Rev Andrew Wickens, vicar in the Dudley Team, were all appointed by the Bishop of Worcester on Monday.
Honorary canons are a link between the diocese and the cathedral and meet to reflect and advise on the life at the cathedral.
Bishop John Inge said: “These three people have given and continue to give outstanding service to the church and wider society as clergy in the Diocese of Worcester. I’m delighted to appoint them Canons of Worcester and know they will be great ambassadors for the Cathedral in the Diocese and vice versa.”
Honorary Canons are distinct from Residentiary Canons who are on the staff of the cathedral.
Rev Barr said: “I am delighted and encouraged to have been appointed as an Honorary Canon. I have served in the Diocese of Worcester for more than seventeen years and have come to appreciate the ministry of the cathedral as Mother Church, particularly on special Diocesan occasions. I now look forward to becoming more involved with the cathedral, and to being an ambassador for it in Malvern.”
