A REDDITCH man who admitted being involved in the supply of cocaine and cannabis, although no drugs were found, has been given a suspended jail sentence.

If 25-year-old Luke Beck, of Ashton Close, had not pleaded guilty to being involved in the supply of the drugs it would have been difficult for the prosecution to present a case, Worcester Crown Court heard.

The only evidence came from text messages found on his mobile phone which police confiscated after a fight in a street in Redditch, David Iles, prosecuting, told the court.

The incident took place 18 months ago on January 27, 2014, and the altercation involved a number of men but no charges followed from it.

Police found pictures of Beck and others with cocaine and cannabis on the phone they had taken from him and messages relating to dealing.

He admitted he swapped some drugs with fellow users at the time and pleaded guilty to the two charges.

No drugs, cash or any other paraphernalia usually involved with drug dealing was found, Mr Iles said.

"If he hadn't pleaded guilty, there would have been no evidence," he told the court.

Michael Aspinall, defending, said Beck had got involved with drug users after losing his driving licence and was in a "low place" at the time but he had turned his life around since.

He had no intention of taking drugs again, he had become a father and had a full time job.

Judge Daniel Pearce-Higgins, QC, said it was an "unusual" case because of the lack of evidence.

He said Beck had been sharing drugs with friends and had not been involved for commercial gain.

He was given a 12 month sentence suspended for two years with 200 hours unpaid work within twelve months.
