A GROUP of Dudley borough nurses are celebrating after being named on a shortlist for the prestigious Nursing Times Awards.

Sarah Causer, Karen Lewis and Jacqui Howells have been nominated in the ‘nurse leader of the year’, ‘nurse of the year’ and the ‘enhancing patient dignity’ categories respectively.

Dawn Wardell, chief nurse for The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust, said: “These awards recognise and reward inspirational work and inspirational people and our three shortlisted nurses make a real difference to patient care and experience in Dudley.

“Being shortlisted is an amazing privilege and recognition like this is always a real boost to our staff.

“We really are thrilled to have reached the final stages and are looking forward to the ceremony in November.”

Sarah, lead nurse on the older people’s ward, was shortlisted in the ‘nurse leader of the year’ category for being an “inspiring leader and role model to her teams in elderly care”.

Macmillan palliative care educator Karen, who has already received a Macmillan Excellence Award, has been shortlisted as ‘nurse of the year’ for her work in providing end of life training and education to health and social care staff across the borough.

Jacqui’s work as learning disability liaison nurse is shortlisted for ‘enhancing patient dignity’ due to “working tirelessly to improve provision for patients with learning disabilities”.

The winners of the 2015 Nursing Times Awards will be announced on November 12 at a ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
