BREAST cancer survivors and best friends hope a spot of afternoon tea will make sure plans for a life-saving breast unit in Worcester never go off the boil.

Kate Butler and Susie Coleman, co-founders of a small non-profit community group called Breast Unit Events, hope afternoon tea in sumptuous surroundings will help them towards their mission to raise £50,000 for the Worcestershire Breast Unit Campaign.

The campaign, backed by the Worcester News from the beginning, seeks to create a new unit at 220 Newtown Road on the site of the city's Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

The afternoon tea will take place on Monday, August 31 in what Mrs Butler called 'the stunning and sumptuous' Garden Pavilion at Stanbrook Abbey in Callow End.

The afternoon fundraiser will start at 1.30pm with tea served at 2pm and will feature music, lawn games in the garden, a raffle and stalls for people to browse, helping raise more cash for the unit which bosses hope will open by the end of this year.

Mrs Butler of Fernhill Heath, near Worcester, said: "Come rain or shine, it’s sure to be a fabulous afternoon."

Mrs Butler and Mrs Coleman, both proud campaign patrons of the Worcestershire Breast Unit Campaign, have both been treated by the campaign’s founder Mr Steven Thrush, Consultant Breast Surgeon at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

Both were diagnosed with breast cancer at a young age, Mrs Butler at 32 and Mrs Coleman at 26.

They both endured surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and five years of hormone treatment. They are also two of the original calendar girls who launched the campaign in October 2009 with others who featured since passing away.

Their aim is to make £50,000 for the campaign and with a very successful Snow Ball event behind them already which raised over £17,000, they are well on the way to reaching their target.

Tickets for the afternoon tea are just £25 each and can be bought in three ways - directly from Stripes boutique on Foregate Street in Worcester, via bank transfer or in person.

Tickets have to be bought in advance so dietary requirements can be confirmed.

No tickets will be available on the day.

More details can be found on their website www.breastunitevents.co.uk or by searching for Breast Unit Events on Facebook or Twitter.

There is the option to upgrade to a bubbly afternoon tea on the day as prosecco and champagne will be available to purchase.

If local businesses or individuals wish to have a stall get in touch with Kate or Susie (kate@breastunitevents.co.uk or susie@breastunitevents.co.uk). Stalls cost £25 each plus a raffle prize donation.

Breast Unit Events are also looking for help for their event in the following ways: businesses to donate raffle prizes and a PA system (to fill a room capable of holding 250 people).
