THE roadworks on Woodgreen Drive in Warndon Villages are still ongoing, but Worcestershire County Council say they are now due to be finished by the end of this month.

The scheme started in January and has now missed its original completion date, of May 29, by three months.

When your Worcester News last reported on how the scheme was progressing on July 20, the council were unable to give a definite completion date.

Now, workers have set their sights on the end of August.

However, people living and working in the area say they are ready for the works to be over.

Karl Dunlop, of Homestead Avenue, said: "It's ridiculous that the work has run over so much. It doesn't look like there's actually work going on yet the barriers remain in place."

A spokesman from Worcestershire County Council said: "Both the Woodgreen Drive and Middle Hollow Drive schemes are due to be fully operational by the end of August.

"Work at both sites was delayed due to the discovery of an uncharted gas main which had to be moved by the utility company. However, work on both sites is now substantially complete and we are currently going through the standard safety inspection process which includes day and night time inspections. The inspectors have suggested some minor works at both sites which are currently being completed and they are both expected to be fully operational by the end of August. We appreciate the delay is frustrating for motorists and residents but the improvements will enhance crossing facilities for pedestrians, cyclists and less mobile users and will ease traffic congestion at these key locations in the future".

It is hoped both sets of works will improve traffic flow and allow for future growth in the number of vehicles using those junctions.

These works are connected with roadworks in Tolladine Road, where a left-hand filter lane has been created for vehicles wishing to turn left at the traffic lights, towards Warndon and Windermere Drive, and in a third scheme a controlled pedestrian crossing is also being installed across Woodgreen Drive, south of Homestead Avenue, which will link the Old Tolladine Road, Greenway, to a footpath.
