THE Splashpad in Worcester's Gheluvelt Park reopened today (Wednesday) after it closed on Monday.

The popular attraction was forced to close after a fault was found with its safety detection system.

Worcester City Council said today that the pad was "operational" again with the exception of one of the smaller water features which needs further "minor work".

The council said it expects the whole pad to be fully back in use for the weekend and apologised for any inconvenience.

The Splashpad was opened in June 2010 as a replacement for the run-down 1950s swimming pool, which was frequently targeted by vandals, and sees as many as 2,000 visitors a day in warm weather.

It also broke down in June and had to be closed for a day while it was repaired, and was also closed for one day in July and again earlier this month.
