A TRIBUTE to the architect who designed the Palace Theatre will also be showing off the work of local artists from September.

The Bertie Crewe Gallery will be officially opening on September 8 exhibiting the works of three local artists, Christine Skirrow, Jenny Mann, and Graham Wilson.

The exhibit will last for two months, until November, before it is changed to display the works of another three local artists.

Every two months the wall mounted artwork will change providing a range of different mediums and styles - from acrylics, drawing and watercolours to figurative, landscapes and abstract.

Councillor Bill Hartnett, leader of the Redditch Council, said: “I think it is fantastic that the work of local artists will be on display for theatre goers to see and have the chance to purchase.

"We have so much talent on offer in Redditch and what better way to honour a true artist - Bertie Crewe - who gave us the Palace Theatre, a little gem in our town.”

The gallery, located off the foyer, will be open during box office hours with later openings on performance days.

Much of the artwork will be available for customers to buy and details of how they can be purchased are available from the box office.

Arts in Redditch (AIR) will work in partnership with Redditch Council to organise the artists and the day to day running of the gallery.
