AN ELDERLY man had to be airlifted to hospital after he was hit by a tractor near Worcester this afternoon.

The man, who is believed to be in his 70s, suffered serious pelvic and abdominal injuries after the wheels of the tractor drove over his torso off the A44 in Whitbourne, between Worcester and Bromyard, at 12.20pm.

A community first responder was sent to the along with two ambulances, a paramedic area support officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford with a MERIT trauma doctor on board.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews and the medic worked as a team to carry out a full assessment on the man and suspected he had a fractured pelvis and other internal injuries.

"They administered pain relief, fluids and other drugs before he was fully immobilised which included the use of a pelvic splint to help support his injuries."

He was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, where his condition was described as "serious".
