MUSICIANS will band together in support of Syrian refugees at a concert in Worcester this weekend.

People are being asked to turn out and show their support on Saturday for the hundreds of thousands of people who are currently fleeing their war-torn homes in Syria.

The concert will be held in the Friends Meeting House on Sansome Street, with a prompt 7.30pm start, and will feature music by local artists, the Folkaholics, Paul J Rose and Paul Jeffery.

Mr Jeffery, who lives off the Hallow Road in Worcester, said he hopes people will show their support.

"I attend meetings at the Friends Meeting House and the idea was raised to do a charity concert to support the Syrian Refugees," he said.

"I really think more needs to be done to help them and we want to raise as much as we can. We are asking for a suggested donation of £5 for entrance to the gig, but if people can't afford that they are welcome to give whatever they can."

The 62-year-old, who has been performing since he was 15, will perform a number of songs as part of the acoustic set.

"These people are fleeing for their lives. Everything we raise will go to Christian Aid, who have a project supporting the refugees, and this will help fund that."

No alcohol is allowed at the venue.

There will be another concert at the Marr's Bar in Pierpoint Street on Sunday, October 4 at 8pm.

The concert is called a Triptych of Tunesmiths and will feature Paul J Rose, Paul Jeffery and Princess Jennifer Ludlow.

Entrance is £3 on the door, but money from tickets bought in advance goes towards the Christian Aid project.
