GYMNASTICS fan Jenna Warner, age eight, from Worcester has won a nationwide competition to have a message of good luck featured in Team GB’s suits for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Perry Wood Primary School pupil Jenna sent in the message “Prepare, breathe, believe” to the competition run by Lancashire-based Simon Jersey, official supplier to Team GB.

She beat hundreds of other children around the UK to have her message chosen as one of 10 to be included in the suits that athletes will be wearing to formal events in both Rio and London.

The aim is that the messages will provide a little extra inspiration to the athletes hoping to bring back gold next year.

Jenna has received a framed copy of her message, embroidered on a sneak peek of the fabric that will be used in the suits, and she will be invited to be one of the first to see the finished suit when it is unveiled next year.

Her hero Olympian gymnast Beth Tweddle launched the competition and was a judge.

She said: “As an athlete, particularly at an away Games, it gives you a huge boost to know that the nation is behind you.

"Having the messages inside the suits will make sure athletes feel the support of everyone back home.

“It was fantastic to read all of the messages but Jenna’s stood out as one of the best that will help inspire our team.”

Simon Jersey is supplying both the formal suit for Team GB and the clothing they will wear for the Closing Ceremony of Rio 2016. The final design is set to be unveiled in spring next year.

James Saunders, Simon Jersey managing director, said: “We were really impressed with the creative messages that we received in the competition. They really showed the enthusiasm and support of the nation’s youth.

“With less than a year to go until Rio 2016 it’s fantastic to be able to unveil the messages and we can’t wait to launch the suits with the help of all of our winners next year.”
