FESTIVE fun came to Evesham and Pershore on Saturday (November 21) as the towns’ Christmas lights were switched on.

Santa and his reindeer visited both towns while carol singing, craft stalls, fireworks and live music added to the Christmas atmosphere.

Crowds flocked to the events to join in the festive celebrations, which featured guest appearances from Disney’s Frozen characters Elsa and Olaf in Evesham and a Georgian Christmas fair and interactive workshops in Pershore.

Steve Knight, one of the organisers of the Pershore event, said: “We were really, really pleased with how it went.

“It was very busy and people really embraced the Georgian theme. Children loved the interactive activities such as pottery, purse and lace making while mums, dads and grandparents appreciated finding out about the history.

“The crowds for the lights switch-on were phenomenal too.

“It was great to see so many people out supporting the town and showcasing the spirit Pershore has.”

In Evesham the fun kicked off at midday with Christmas music at Market Place and a balloon modelling workshop at the Riverside Centre.

This was followed by guest appearances from Disney’s Frozen characters Elsa and Olaf before Santa and his reindeer arrived at 3pm with a parade up Bridge Street and the Christmas lights were switched on at 5.30pm.

Meanwhile in Pershore the town travelled back in time with Georgian-themed interactive workshops including pottery and purse making, a puppet theatre and market demonstrations.

And the historic fun in Pershore was accompanied with all the usual festive favourites including carol singing, a visit from Father Christmas and his reindeer and children’s carousels and rides.
