A POPULAR Stourbridge pub faces an uncertain future after it was put up for sale.

The Edward Rutland, which is based in High Street, is one of 34 pubs across the country put on the market by owner JD Wetherspoon.

A spokesman for the company said the firm had carried out a review of its 950-strong national pub estate and has decided to put a number up for sale.

He added that the Edward Rutland would continue to operate as a Wetherspoon pub until it was sold and employees would be offered roles elsewhere.

Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon said: “We can confirm that The Edward Rutland is on the market as one of 34 pubs that Wetherspoon has put up for sale.

“We understand and appreciate that the pub’s loyal customers will be disappointed with our decision.

“The pub will remain open and trading until it is sold.”

He added: “At that stage all staff working at the pub will be offered jobs at other Wetherspoon pubs or might wish to stay with the new owners.”

The Edward Rutland is not the only Wetherspoons owned pub on the high street, with The Chequers Inn less than 200 yards along the road.
