STORMS have hit Habberley following severe weather across Worcestershire.

Pictures from two Shuttle readers show the amazing cloud formations developing over areas of Kidderminster yesterday (Wednesday, June 15) as a result of heavy downpour.

Martin Cooper, a window fitter for Oakleaf Commercial Services, spotted the storm at around 3pm from his van on Cathedral Avenue, Habberley, before it disappeared five minutes later.

Mr Cooper, 44, from Habberley, said: "I spotted something when we pulled up for work.

"I look out of windows quite often because of my job. I’m used to looking at the clouds as I’m fascinated by them but I saw this and immediately thought this looked like a funnel cloud.

"It just grew and grew and grew. It lasted about four or five minutes then it was gone.

"They are becoming more and more common in this area now. It is quite incredible to see."

Another resident, Alan Vaughan, saw a storm develop on Habberley Road as he drove to pick up his daughter from Baxter College.

Mr Vaughan, 47, from Kidderminster, said: "I was sat in the car park by Baxter College, waiting for my daughter to come out.

"Normally I would walk down to the school but because of the weather I thought I would be drier in the car.

"I saw the clouds and took some photos. I was just amazed. I have not seen anything like that before in Kidderminster as we are used to seeing more normal types of cloud.

"You do not expect to see that sort of thing in Kidderminster.

"I was very lucky to have seen it as it was only there for a couple of minutes."

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: "This radar image for 2pm local time (1300GMT) on Wednesday shows heavy showers around the Worcestershire area.

"There was little flow around on Wednesday which meant the storms would have been slow moving and could well have developed into supercells.

"On Thursday the conditions were suited for funnel cloud formation. Several funnel clouds developed across England."
