SEVEN charities across Wyre Forest have received a share of a £14,180 grant offered by The Midcounties Co-operative from the Society’s Community Fund.

Wyre Forest service Dial a Ride is one of nine groups who were offered funding, enabling them to use their £2,000 donation to purchase a new multi-person vehicle.

The funding will help them to continue to provide a door-to-door transport service for those who can’t use public transport due to disability.

Other Wyre Forest organisations to receive grants include Heightington Village Hall in Bewdley, Kidderminster and Stourport Athletic Club and Wolverley Village Players.

Bewdley Festival, Kidderminster 21st Brinton Park Scout Group, and Kidderminster Sea Scout, Cub and Beaver Group were also handed backing.

Each of the nine good causes were presented with a donation of up to £2,000 at The Midcounties Co-operative Franche Road Food store this week.

The grants are a part of the Society’s on-going commitment to provide a positive impact to the local communities in which it serves.

Tarra Simmons, General Manager of Co-operative Social Responsibility, at The Midcounties Co-operative, said: "We’re proud to be able to award charities and community groups in the West Midlands a boost in funding.

"These nine groups each play a vital role in offering support, essential services and social activities for local residents, and the donations will be used to help them continue their good work.

"Helping to build sustainable and positive communities is a core part of our values at The Midcounties Co-operative, and we’d like to encourage other groups in the area to apply for our next round of funding if they need support."

Relate Worcestershire was also awarded with £1,916 to invest in new computer equipment and software, which will help volunteers reach more people.

The group provides an advice and counselling service on issues around family, relationships and children for young people in Worcestershire and surrounding areas.

Transition Evesham Vale was given funding towards the running of an annual food festival.

Local groups and charities in West Midlands are being urged to apply for the next round of the Community Fund as it is now open for applications.
