THE family of a man found dead in his room at a Dudley mental health facility are hoping for answers at an inquest into his death today (Monday).

Glen Jordan was found dead in his room Bushey Fields Hospital on April 24 this year, by a nursing assistant carrying out welfare checks.

The 39-year-old from Cannock, was placed under hourly observation after admitting himself four days previously, reporting that he felt suicidal.

Mr Jordan’s family instructed medical negligence lawyers Irwin Mitchell to investigate his care under the Dudley and Walsall Mental Health Partnership and the circumstances leading up to his death.

Former partner, Lisa Bowers, who has a son with Mr Jordan, said: “We are still struggling to come to terms with what has happened to Glen and desperately want to know whether anything could have been done to prevent his death.

“If lessons can be learned from his death, it will spare other children the pain of losing a parent.”

The inquest at the Black Country Coroner’s Court in Oldbury and is scheduled to last two days.

Lydia Arntzen, the expert medical negligence lawyer representing Ms Bowers, said: “Glen admitted himself to Bushey Fields Hospital because he was concerned about suicidal thoughts. Both he and Lisa hoped that in the hospital he would receive the help and support he needed to recover and his safety would be protected.

“Lisa now wants to understand what happened to Glen and the circumstances leading to his death so that if anything could have been done differently, it can be acknowledged and learned from to prevent further deaths.”
